Q+A: Get to Know me!
This week on my instagram story I posted an Q+A about anything and everything, just for y’all to get to know me more and for me to see what y’all are interested in hearing more of! I got a lot of great questions and am going to answer some of them here.
What’s your major?
I am a nursing major + absolutely love it! It’s a lot of hard work and a lot of late nights spent studying, but I know the end goal and that makes it all worth it. I’m excited to actually begin the nursing school part of it and be done with my lower division classes. Super pumped for all that’s to come!
What are your favorite self care tips?
This is such a good question!! I love working out— it’s such a stress reliever for me and if you know me you know how much I love 9 Round. But other than that, taking the time to put my phone down, lighting a candle, turning on some worship music and reading a good book or doing a face mask. Just taking time to breathe and not focus on the stress I’m experiencing but to take a step back and kind of reset is always good for me. It’s different for everyone though so try different things until you find what works for you!
When you’re feeling insecure about yourself, especially on the outside, what do you do?
One of the best things for me when I’m feeling insecure is to dive into the Bible and re-read all of the verses about what God says about me, rather than listening to what the world says, or the negative self talk I’m giving myself. I wrote a blog post about my journey in loving my body and how the Lord has restored the way I view myself, you can read that here.
How to make a long distance relationship work?
This is a question I’ve gotten pretty frequently but truthfully never been sure quite how to answer! I really think that every relationship is so different and would require different answers, but in my opinion it comes down to how much you want to make it work. In Joe and I’s situation, we knew that regardless of the distance, nothing changed the fact that we wanted to be together. I’d rather have just a couple days a year with him than hundreds of days with someone else (as cheesy or silly as that might sound). If you really want to be together, you will find a way to make the distance work— but that doesn’t mean there aren’t hard days. My best advice is to pray. If God wasn’t the center of our relationship, I can’t even imagine how much more difficult it would be. On the days when it’s really hard and I’m really missing him, the Lord is who I get to turn to and who comforts me and lets me know that this time will pass. It has taught me a lot of patience and made me so much more appreciative of the time that we do get to spend together. On top of spending a lot of time in prayer, definitely putting in effort + clear communication are very important! Learn their love languages and make sure you’re making them feel loved even from so far away.
Favorite part of UA?
I definitely could not pick just one favorite! I love this school so much and truly couldn’t imagine myself anywhere else. Everything from the school spirit, the atmosphere on campus, Greek life, (mostly) warm weather, and of course football games make it so so so special to me. I’m planning on writing a blog post about this in the near future, highlighting all of the reasons why I love it here so much!
What was high school like for you?
I really loved high school! It definitely wasn’t always easy and I put a lot of unnecessary pressure on myself to do well in school but looking back, I wouldn’t have changed my experience for anything! I’m so thankful for the amazing friends I made during that time and the experiences I had.
What’s been your biggest struggle in college so far?
The biggest struggle has definitely been managing my daily migraines. They are so unpredictable and can sometimes have me down for days at a time if they’re really bad. Last spring I had to go home for a few weeks after a week long migraine, so just trying to manage my pain and figure out what triggers the bad ones has been tough, especially with such a busy schedule that comes along with being in college. Other than that, definitely just missing my family, Joe, my friends, and of course dogs!
What’s your number 1 tip for anyone who’s looking to start a blog?
My best advice for someone looking to start a blog is to figure out your why! Why do you want to start a blog? What are you passionate about and what can you offer your readers? For me, I wanted a place that I could have a creative outlet and share about lots of different things, all in the hopes of pointing people toward Christ and sharing a little bit of His love. Once you figure out why you want to do it, it’ll make it so much more fun and worthwhile. And after that— just begin! There’s lots of different blogging platforms to start your website so do some research on what will be the best fit for your needs. If y’all want to hear more about this let me know, I could definitely write an entire blog post on this!
What are a few things you did to grow your Pinterest?
I started uploading my own pictures rather than only repinning others. I also registered my website with Pinterest so that my pins would show up as “rich pins” (if you google this there’s lots of tutorials out there in how to do so). Lastly, I also created graphics for each of my blog posts and linked those back to my blog. This can be done easily through programs like Canva!
Are you going to sell your presets anytime soon?
Yes!!! This is kind of a fun secret, but my mom and I (Janelle at Studio 116!) are working on coming out with a preset pack together. Stay tuned, we are super excited about this.
I hope y’all enjoyed reading through my answers to these questions! I liked doing this and will definitely do this again in the future. Have a great week!
