Joy Jackets by Julia Elise

I could not be more excited to announce something super fun that I’ve been working on lately! Last month I painted one of my best friends, Jordan, a jean jacket as a Christmas present with some of her favorite song lyrics on the back. Jay wore this jacket to the Passion Conference in Atlanta and after telling me about all the compliments she received and how so many people asked her where they could get one of their own, I started working on creating these as something I could sell! Each of these jackets are unique and different, hand-painted in hopes of bringing joy to others. I’ve created each of these designs and while I have more in the works, I will also be taking custom orders if there are any specific words or designs y’all have in mind!

With the help of my incredibly thoughtful and not to mention absolutely beautiful friends, I was able to capture some images of these jackets, along with the pure joy these girls have in the way they radiate Christ’s love. I’m so thankful for these girls and this new endeavor of mine, and I truly cannot wait to continue creating these! Interested in purchasing one? Email me at Each jacket will range from $75-100 depending on design. To check out the gallery highlighting each of these jackets, visit the “Joy Jackets” tab on the blog (here)! Finally, here are some of my favorite images and why I specifically chose the words behind these designs. I hope you enjoy!

The jacket that started it all, based off of Jordan’s favorite song “So Will I” by Hillsong United. Knowing this was her favorite song and the way I could incorporate the stars into it, I knew this was something I wanted to make for her to be able to have to treasure these words and their importance to her forever!!!

Fully known and fully loved. This jacket is based off of one of my favorite songs “Known” by Tauren Wells. She sings the lyrics, “I’m fully known and loved by You, You won’t let go no matter what I do, And it’s not one or the other, it’s hard truth and ridiculous grace to be known, fully known, and loved by you”. These lyrics are so powerful I just had to represent them on this denim jacket. It also reminds me of this incredible quote by Timothy Keller which states, “To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known but not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us”.

Similar to the fact I have child of God tattooed on my ankle, this jacket represents the most important part of where I find my identity. The King of the universe calls us his sons and daughters! 2 Corinthians 6:18 states, “and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty”. I made this jacket specifically for my sister for her birthday so that she will always have this as a reminder of her true identity.

This jacket is based off of Matthew 5:16 which says, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven”. Lord, let them see You in me. More of You Jesus, less of me.

Choose joy. The idea that joy is not based on our circumstances but that there is a deeper joy within us that comes from the Lord. The idea that we get to make the choice to wake up every morning and choose to be joyful, despite all of the craziness occurring around us. I love that these words can serve as a reminder to make this decision daily.

This jacket might just be my most favorite one. Psalm 139:14 states, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” This verse is one of my favorites and something I have to remind myself of daily. I love this design because of how subtle yet powerful the words are along the hem, paired with the fun stars on the back.

Matthew 6:33 states, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” In all that I do, I want to first seek God with all my heart and then trust that everything else will fall into place. This is a profound reminder that I loved being able to paint on this jacket.

I am so excited to start selling these and see how the Lord will work through these jackets!!! It’s my hope and prayer that these would serve as a source of joy and encouragement to those who wear them. I’d be absolutely honored to make you one just like these or even your own custom design, just shoot me an email at Here we go!
