2018 Year in Review
2018. Wow, what a year it has been. A year full of growth, challenges, new convictions, endings and new beginnings, some of the highest highs, along with some really low lows. It’s always crazy to me looking at all of the things that can change in one year as well as some of the things that are constant through it all. 2018 has been one of the best years of my life and I’m looking into 2019 expectantly at all the ways the Lord is going to work through me, change me, and mold me further into who He created me to be. I’m taking this time to reflect on all of the blessings and new experiences 2018 held as well as looking forward to all that’s to come in the next year!
January highlights consisted of ringing in the new year with my best friend by my side , the AXO “Wiggin’’ in the New Year” date party, and a Cole Swindell concert with Jay.
February was full of traveling all over, essentially every weekend! I went and explored Birmingham with Julia and Jordan, followed by AXO having a Mardi Gras Cocktail party. Jordan and I road tripped back to Indiana to make a quick trip to see my puppies and our sweet friends at IU. I then flew out to California to spend a long weekend with Joe in Oceanside (which I can say was truly one of the best parts of 2018- we had the time of our lives), and then road tripped to North Carolina to lead at a Young Life camp weekend in Windy Gap.
March was definitely one of the most transformational months of 2018 for me. It began with Alpha Chi Parents Weekend and being able to show my favorite people around the place that had so quickly become so special to me. Parents Weekend was followed by spring break in Destin, Florida with so many of my of sorority sisters. We had an absolute blast and I loved getting to know them all more and more that week. After that, my health took a turn for the worse and I ended up coming home to Indiana for a couple weeks after being bedridden from a migraine that just would not go away. This down time at home included some much needed snuggles with the puppies as I was in and out of the hospital. It also brought a lunch date with Jordan Lee Dooley once I was feeling better and about to return to school. She is full of so much wisdom and was such a breath of fresh air to sit down and talk about life with.
April was such a great month! I was able to return to school and was welcomed back by the sweetest friends who reminded me how thankful I am to go to school at UA and be surrounded by such incredible people. We went paddle boarding on the river, finished up the best small group semester with Cultivate, and then Jordan and I went to yet another country concert. We had chipotle picnics on the quad with friends, attended a baseball game, and soaked in the last few Sundays at Church of the Highlands this semester. April ended with a bang as AXO held Calypso at the Drish House!
May was wild as I finished my freshman year of college and said goodbye to living in Tutwiler with Tanslee with one last movie night & face masks. Jordan and I spent a couple days in Nashville with my mom on the way back to Indiana and then Nelly and I made it back just in time for the beautiful wedding of my long time friend and one of my biggest role models, Sarah Davis! She and Justin make the most precious couple. Jordan and I then headed to Columbus, Ohio for the Justin Timberlake concert which was AMAZING. Then of course attended some country concerts with my girls from home and took a trip to Dale Hollow Lake with some of my favorite people.
June highlights include a trip to Chicago and weekend at Jordan’s lake house with Syd, some much needed quality time with my best girls, and strawberry picking with my mom, Nonnie, and Lucy. Then some more concerts and Genna’s birthday when we went with her as she got “be still” tattooed on her arm in my handwriting! A couple days later I got to head to Minnesota to see Joe after a long 4 1/2 months of being apart.
Joe and I spent the first week of July in Minnesota with his fam, full of many lake days and lots of boat rides. Once I was home I headed to Chicago for our annual trip with my mom, Nonnie, and Lucy. We stopped at the Happy Place and it was one of the coolest things I experienced this year! Before heading back to school, Olivia and I went sunflower picking. This was also the month I started my blog! God had been placing this dream on my heart for so long and I couldn’t be happier that I followed through and took the leap to do so. It’s been nothing but pure joy and a blessing so far, and I can’t wait to see how it will continue to grow in 2019!
While Joe and I couldn’t be together for our 2 years, he surprised me with the sweetest bouquet of roses! Jordan and I were reunited and headed back to Tuscaloosa for our sophomore year. I moved into my town house, we had rush workshop and rush week which concluded with welcoming the sweetest pledge class to the sisterhood on bid day! We had so much fun at POTR and were too happy to return to ONE on Thursday nights at Church of the Highlands.
September was another busy month as it began with my mom, Nonnie, and Lucy coming to visit and us all taking a quick weekend trip to Birmingham. September was filed with game days at Bryant Denny Stadium, the My Tie date party, and another trip to Minnesota for Joe’s brother’s wedding, followed by more game days and sweet moments with PC ‘18 as a lyre leader.
October brought Turbo coffee dates with Syd and Jay, a quick weekend trip home to see the pups, homecoming week, and a visit to the pumpkin patch with Ashley and Tater Tot! I got to assist Natalie with hair and makeup for a few weddings and then watched the tide win even more games at BDS. For fall break I brought Kylie home with me, we took a trip to Purdue, I got my first tattoo, and we traveled to Fort Wayne and watched Jordan be crowned Miss Fort Wayne!
November began with Big-Little Reveal welcoming sweet Maddie into the fam!!! AXO had our formal in Birmingham, and then Jordan and I’s IU friends came to visit us for the Citadel game. I was so blessed to be able to spend Thanksgiving with Jordan and her family in Birmingham at Ross Bridge Resort and then back to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama Auburn game! November ended with a trip to California to see Joe and attend the Marine Corps Ball.
December was such a fun month as Joe and I went to Disneyland for the first time and legit had the time of our lives. Some friends and I had the sweetest Secret Santa Party and then studied like our lives depended on it during dead week for finals. Coming home to Indy brought so many sweet reunions and Joe came home for TWO WHOLE WEEKS. Truly a dream come true. Jordan came to visit from Fort Wayne, Joe and I spent Christmas together in Indy and then headed to Minnesota to celebrate with his family as well.
2018 has definitely been a year for the books and I am so thankful for all of the incredible memories and experiences it held. Here’s to 2019 being even more full of adventure, joy, spontaneity, and friendship.
